These are from an unforgettable airshow in Coventry that I went to
about 10 years ago (I can't remember exactly...) and there more of
them.
First of all, we have a Spitfire on a very low pass
(did the insurance company know about this?) this isn't faked and its
the only time I've ever managed to get a decent panned shot with a
camera - usually, I manage to get both the background and the
foreground all blurry! |
It
was a pretty amazing day, I think that I went through at least three
films in the camera, but then again, I just love aircraft from the
1930's and 40's - I don't love the purpose to
which they were put, but I just turn to jelly at the sound of a Merlin
engine; there's nothing to beat it (apart from, just possibly
the sound of an 8F charging out of the station at Keighley...) |
Sorry that the quality of these scans is a bit ropy, I did them a long time
ago on a rather primitive device at work and I haven't managed to find the
photos to do them again properly. Not to worry, I'll dig them out sometime.

Here we have a bit of American military paraphinalia, a rather nice B25
trundling down the runway. Not one of my all-time favourite aircraft,
as I tend to prefer British and German models, but what the heck, not a
bad machine even so! |
Next,
we have, if memory serves me right, an F4U Corsair. An endearingly
absurd-looking creation, with it's gull-wings and the undercarriage
that bends round as it retracts. I think that this one is in the
Australian Air Force, but I'm not sure. |
I'd
completely forgotton what the next thing was, untilI checked the
filename. Even so, all I can remember is that it is a Fairey Gannet
which sounds like they named it on a Friday afternoon... |
Much
more recognizable; a Hurricane, the last one still in flying condition,
unless someone's got one lurking in their garage somewhere... |
