Butlins?? Yes, well, if I can find a steam locomotive at a brewery (Bass) then I don't see why we can't have one at a holiday camp as
well. Not just any locomotive either, Royal Scot itself, in the days when it slowly
deteriorated away at Butlin's in Skegness. As you can see from the picture, this was
obviously in my earliest steam-loving days! The chap with me is my father, who died when I
was 16. |

I remember going back to Skeggy the year after these photographs were taken
and being heartbroken that they'd locked the gate in the fence around the engine, so I
wasn't allowed to go on it any more.Must be one of my earliest memories, that, not
being allowed in the cab of the Royal Scot! |
Funnily enough, I don't remember anything
whatsoever about the little green engine behind it. I can't even remember it being there. |
